Private attorneys reap millions working for state

Only two people in Alabama have the authority to hire private trial lawyers to sue on behalf on the state — in other words, on behalf of you and me. They are the attorney general and the governor.
With this grave authority comes grave responsibility, because when state clout is combined with the possibility of trial lawyers' self-interest, the probability for lawsuit abuse reaches critical mass.
