Bill Minor's ideological devotion to trial lawyers has blinded his vision for open government ("'Sunshine Law' proposal to bid out for legal work dimwitted," April 25). He argues against sunshine legislation by parading infamous characters as examples of good government: Joey Langston, who pleaded guilty to conspiracy to corruptly influence an elected state official; and Dickie Scruggs, who pleaded guilty to conspiracy to bribe an elected official. Forgive me if I don't find Scruggs and Langston to be poster boys for trusting backroom deals. The fact that Mississippi's current and previous attorneys general have admittedly structured backroom agreements with these two individuals illustrates why we need the antiseptic power of sunshine.
